Books in the Media: December 5, 2019

I have gathered my publishers’ media for you in one place, and you can find the roundup at this link on BookManager! We have a lot of CBC action happening— CBC Tapestry, CBC The Next Chapter, and CBC The Current! And more!

We also have a hot drop-in title coming in January: The Shadow King in paperback from PGC Raincoast. There has been a flurry of US media including Time magazine must read and New York Times best book. Film rights have been optioned by the company that did the recent Wonder Woman.

And here are some early review quotes:

“Lyrical, remarkable . . . breathtakingly skilful . . . The reader feels . . . in the steady hands of a master . . . Hirut [is] as indelible and compelling a hero as any I’ve read in years.” — Namwali Serpell, New York Times Book Review

“A sprawling, unforgettable epic from an immensely talented author who’s unafraid to take risks . . . [R]endered all the more effective by Mengiste’s gift at creating memorable characters . . . The star of the novel, however, is Mengiste’s gorgeous writing, which makes The Shadow King nearly impossible to put down . . . [O]ne of the most beautiful novels of the year.” — Michael Schaub, NPR

“Monumental . . . Mengiste’s extraordinary characters―shrewd Kidane, militant Aster, the enigmatic cook, narcissistic Italian commander Fucelli, conflicted photographer Ettore, elusive prostitute Fifi, even haunted Selassie―epitomize the impossibly intricate ties between humanity and monstrosity, and the unthinkable, immeasurable cost of survival.” — Booklist (starred review)
