Always Brave, Sometimes Kind Shortlisted for Relit Award

Katie Bickell’s Always Brave, Sometimes Kind has been shortlisted for the 2021 ReLit Awards. This is an excellent read according to my co-rep Bridget, it has really standout writing. Author lives in Alberta.

Here are Bridget’s notes:

Stirring linked short stories that capture present day realities in various settings around Alberta (Fort Mac, Edmonton, others). There are so many cultural hot issues explored here: the immigrant experience in Canada, indigenous communities with missing children who’ve been taken away, the alt right, the opioid crisis, oil booms and busts, healthcare and doctoring in marginalized communities, teenaged waywardness…all of which sounds like it could be dark and heavy, but it’s not — it’s very humane and touching, with a wonderful variety of voices and perspectives.

Highly recommend! Available at HGD.
